at the Alabama State Fair, held in the city of

take great pleasure in recommending it to the
planting community. I received it about the 1st
day of April, and planted it on the 7th following,
on black-jack and hickory land, in checks 5 by 4
feet—added one handful of cotton seed to each
hill—plowed and hoed twice and thinned to one
stalk. I had no rain from the 15th day of May
until I gathered it. I measured of good corn at
s s • the rates of 60 bushels per acre. I think late
planting anddry weather cut it ol 40 bushels per
acre. Ihavenohesitencyin saying that on good

L E A T IT E R AN D SHOES!
SINGER’S
Sewvimg Nachinne3
No- 33 Camp Street, New Orleans.
SUCCESS THE BEST EVIDENCE OF MERIT !
/AVER THIRTEEN THOUSAND SINGER’S
U sewing machines are in use. which is a much
greater number than of any other sewing machine
and the. amount of clothing and shoes made by
them is probably much greater than by all other
sewing machines put together.
Thousands of singer’s sewing machines have
been in daily use for years, without one dollar’s
expense for repairs, while an expense of several
hundred dollars is incurred yearly to keep thirty
machines (G. & B.) in order at the steam clothing
factory in this city.
The following are some‘of the reasons of the
great superiority of singer’s sewing machines;
1. There is no other sewing machine in the
world that will do all kinds of sewing with equal
facility.
2. The superior beauty and excellence of the
stitch, being the same on both sides of the fabric.
3. Negroes can be safely trusted with the entire
care of the machine, without the least apprehen-
sion that they will get out of order.
4. We-are daily receiving propositions ex-
change all other kinds of sewing machines for
Singer’s, and among those' who have applied to
exchange are some whose names are given as ref-
erence of the triumphal success of other machines,
but who were not consulted about giving their
names as reference.
No other sewing machine has given universal
satisfaction for several years in any portion of this
State.
One of the signers of the subjoined certificates
used Wheeler & Wilson’s machines eighteen
months and sold it for one-half the cost and bought
Singer’s:
We, the undersigned, certify that we have had
singer's sewing machines in use the length of
time for the purpose specified, and find them admi-
rably adapted to all kinds of sewing, fine or coarse.
They are very simple in construction, and not
liable to get out of order, and the work done by
them is beautiful, and substantial. We believe
they have given universal satisfaction . in this re-
gion, and we therefore recommend them to, all
who have much sewing to do of any kind, as a
great labor-saving machine.
