We have made arrangements to
have this column devoted each
week entirely to beekeeping. We
have secured the service of Mr. E.
G. LeStourgeon, secretary of the
Bexar County Beekeepers’ Asso-
ciation, and one of the best known
leeekeepers in the State of Texas,
to conduct this department for our
readers. Any questions concerning
agriculture or any request for ad-
vice about beekeeping should be ad-
dresses to E. G. LeSturgeon, Box
1048. San Antonio, Texas, and will
be fully and carefully answered in
this column. We trust that every
one of our readers will take advan-
tage of this opportunity, because
beekeeping is rapidly becoming one
of the most extensive industries in
our part of Texas.

struction. As soon as you suspect
its presence, write to Professor
Wilmon Newell, A & M. College,
College Station, Texas, for counsel
and help. The college has a
small fund to use in fighting bee
diseases.
The trade in bee-keepers’ sup-
plies is growing rapidly larger
in Texas. Many carloads are ship-
ped here from other states, and
there are several factories in Tex-
/
as.
It requires the work of 20,000
bees to produce a pound of nectar.
Each bee gathers only one-for-
tieth of an ounce of nectar during
its life of 20 days. More than six
hundred million bees work each
year to produce the American
honey supply. The 6,000,000 col-
onies are worth $15,000,000: their
crop sells each year for much more
than that. But the chief value of
the bees—as pollenizing agents—
is simply inestimable.

it has long been said that bee
stings were valuable to relieve
rheumatism and many persons have
told us of beneficial results accru-
ing from the injection of the bee
poison. We had one customer who
came into our office last summer
and pulling off his shoe captured
three bees and held the sharp end
against his toes. He told us that
the stings were almost an instant
relief when he had rheumatism in
his lower limb. Some medical men
say that this is nonsense and that
the sting has really no value. May-
be Dr. Bonney has discovered in
his above suggestion the real rea-
son why so few beekeepers never
suffer from rheumatism.
If you have had any experience
along this line or know of any
cures having been effected either
with bee stings or by the use of
honey we would be glad to print
your letter in this department.

BEES IN TEXAS.
Paris.—The destruction of a Zep-
plin airship in the vicinity of
Tirlemont, March 11, says the
Matin’s Havre correspondent, was
the work of two French and two
English aeroplanes. The state-
ment that it fell during a storm
is denied. Nine members of the
crew of forty-one aboard the air-
craft are reported to have been
found dead, while twenty-nine were
so badly injured they died the next
day.
j Washington, D. C.—President
Wilson has determined that all the

to respect the lives and property
of foreigners, but to insure free-

its southern neighbor.
This policy, enunciated in the
last two notes sent to General Car-

the City of Mexico, was further
developed by the dispatch of a
