HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and 2 meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and friends of 3 Charles Eugene Thielman of Paris, who passed away on August 11, 4 2005, at the age of 85; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Thielman was born on September 27, 1919, to C. H. 6 and Mae Hayes Thielman and graduated from Paris High School and 7 Paris Junior College; he later earned his bachelor's degree from 8 Texas Tech University and his master's degree from Texas A&M 9 University--Commerce; and 10 WHEREAS, A veteran of World War II, this notable Texan served 11 in Company B, 111th Medical Battalion; and the Army Signal Corps in 12 the South Pacific from 1940 to 1946; he left the army with the rank 13 of first lieutenant after having served with General Douglas 14 MacArthur's advance unit in the Philippines and was a member of the 15 U.S. Army Reserve until 1955; and 16 WHEREAS, Following his return to civilian life, Mr. Thielman 17 taught physics and mathematics at Paris High School for more than 30 18 years; he chaired the Paris Independent School District math 19 program and was business manager of the high school's athletic 20 department; and 21 WHEREAS, He was also active in a number of civic, 22 professional, and religious organizations; a member of Faith 23 Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and Sunday school 24 teacher, he was instrumental in the founding of the Presbyterian
