DO YOUR PART!
Every two years we are faced with the dilemma of
choosing a State Representative for the State Legis-
lature Th i< yeor, as in the past tKe issues before the
people ote somewhat overshadowed by crisis facing the
nation as a whole '
There are no real clear cut or dramatic issues on
the statewide political sCene os of this writing True
enough redistricting, the Court’s decision declaring the
poll tax unconstitutional, the new Criminal Code and
teocher s pay raises have received considerable amounts
of publicity, but at this time two years ago we hod no
indication that these issues would assume the propor-
tions that they later did
All of the problems for the most part however
have been settled at least temporarily and it appears
that once ogoin there are no new worlds to conquer ” ’
“■■This may well be true if you choose to look only
to the next hill Over the hill, however, lie problems
only hinted of until now Included are the question of
stote finance whether or not a tax increase is in order
for the State, the increasing role of the Federal Govern
ment in all -segments of our State affairs, water con-
servation the, pollution cf our rivers, the quality of
education of our state and the role of industry in rural

Dear Editor:
According to part of a news-
‘ paper I found, out here yes-
terday—what happened was
that the front age caught on
a fence but the rest blew away
—a lot of people are worried
ever inflation and some are
blaming it on higher farm
prices.
This particular -article said
farm prices have gone uo. the
price of food therefore has
gone up, other items have
joined the spiral, and the cost
cf living all around has gone
up “The answer,” the article
continued. but at that point
it had reached the bottom of
the oage and said Continued

for it, but I don’t believe the
inly wav to avoid inflation is

be some other way
in a depression. I can see
' how farm prices can be low.
but to argue they’ve lot to
be low too when times are
booming or otherwise mwe’ll
have inflation, is nutting too
much of a load on the same
sere backs
I have given this matter
some thought and in Athe pro
cess have arrived at the final
and permanent solution to the
farm price nroblem. It’ll ab-
sclutely end the system where
one year a farmer gets 28
cents a oound for a hog and
the next year 14cehts.
Take the wages of labor.
They’re tied to the Economic
Index. When the cost of liv-
ing advances, wages are auto,

If us farmers were smart
we’d get hooked un with the
Economic Index too so that

I guarantee this will keep
farm prices un to a satisfac-

The deadline in the Sears

at 5 p.m. All letters request-
ing Sears pigs must be in the
County Agents office by this
time. The original deadline did
not give us time enough to
meet with all the 4-H Clubs
and this caused the delay. To
date eleven letters have been
received requesting Sears pigs.
Sharon McCarroll and Jack
Stuteville represented the
young County 4-H Clubs at the
District 4-H-Council meeting
which was. held last Saturday
in Haskell. Mrs. Harrison ac-
