Funeral Held
in Woodson
Funeral services for Mrs. Gar-
land Eubank, 67, who died Feb-
ruary 22 in a Wichita Falls
hospital, were conducted 10 a.m.
Thursday from Hampton-
Vaughan Funeral Home Chapel,
Wichita Falls, with Rev. Wil-
liam E. Wright, pastor of the
First Christian Church, offic-
iating.
A second service was held
2:30 p.m. Thursday from First
Methodist Church In Throck-
morton. Burial was in Throck-
morton Cemetery.
Survivors include the hus-
band, a daughter, Mrs. Gloria
Nolan of Wichita Falls; her
mother, Mrs. Sudie Daws of
Woodson; two borthers, T.T.
and J.W. Daws, both of Wood-
son; a sister, Mrs. Ermine
Forth of Woodson, and two
grandchildren.

This week marks the begin-
ning of this new column. It
is my hope that through the use
of 4-H News Notes it will be
possible to keep the 4-H mem-
bers, adult leaders and the
general public more informed
of the many 4-H activities and
events. Most of the column will
be concerned with 4-H news,
however at the end of the column
you will find a calendar of com-
ing 4-H events,
Coming up on Saturday even-
ing at 6:30 p.m. in the Munici-
pal Auditorium will be the 4-H
County Elimination Contest. In
this contest there is both a.
Junior and Senior Division.
Juniors are under 14 and Sen-
iors must have been 14 or older
by January 1.
The method demonstrations
are presented by a team of two
4-H’ers on one of more than
30 subject matter areas. They
have 12 minutes to present their
demonstration and are judged on
appearance, presentation, vis-
ual aids and subject matter. So
far, seven senior demonstra-
tions teams and seven Junior
teams have entered this years
contest.
Any other 4-H members
wanting to do method demon-
strations should contact the
County Agents’ Office. Judges
will be used from outside the
county for this contest. There
is no admission charge and the
public is invited to attend. Rib-
bons will be awarded to each
team participating.
Some other contests and
events which are coming up
should be mentioned. The 4-H
Tractor Contest will be held
on Saturday March 12, at 10:00
a.m. at the County Livestock
Barn in Fireman’s Park. This
contest is open to both jun-
ior and senior 4-H boys and
girls. The tractor contest con-
sists of four main parts: (1)
an examination over tractor
maintenance and care (2) a
faulty tractor test (3) a two
wheel driving event and (4) a
four wheel driving event.
Rules* and regulations con-
cerning this contest may be
obtained from the county agents
office. Four additional tractor
manuals are available to inter-
ested 4-H club members at no
charge. Awards will be given
in both Junior and senior Di-
tistons.
On March 9-12 the San Angelo
Stock show and Rodio will be
held. The only Young County

Mrs. Carpenter
Dies in
Throckmorton
funeral rites for Mrs. C.R.
Carpenter, a resident of
Throckmorton for 60 year, were
conducted 4 p.m. Thursday hum
the Throckmorton first Metho-
dist church.
Rev. Wayland Dowden, past-
or, and Rev. Hollie Briscoe,
pastor of First Baptist Church,
officiated. Burial was in the
Throckmorton Cemetery under
direction of Merriman Funeral
Home.
Mrs. Carpenter died Tues-
day evening.
She was a member of the
Methodist Church and was mar-
l ried in 1915 in Throckmorton.
Survivors include her hus-
band, a son, John W. of Abi-
lene; two daughters, Mrs. Tru-
ett Bird of Throckmorton and
Mrs. w. B. Harley of Oklaho-
ma City, a brother, Jim Cole
of San Antonio; five sisters,
Mrs. Stella Loyd, Mrs. H.C.
McNutt, Mrs. F. N. Gordon,
and Mrs. Leslie Carpenter, all
of Throckmorton, and Mrs.
Howard Lassiter of Ft Worth,
five grandchildren, and a grea’
grandchild.
The throne room used by King
Nebuchadnezzar measured 170
feet by 56, feet—with a 36 foot
ceiling.
4-H member entered in this
show will be Jenny Stuteville
of Olney who will show her
shorthorn steer. By the way
the judge for this year’s San
Angelo Steer and Heifer show
will be Mr. Anthan Allen of the
Murray Community who is also
president of the Graham 4-H
Adult Leaders Club.

4-H Adult Leader Forum will
be held at the w ilbarger Me-
morial Auditorium in Vernon
beginning at 9:00 a.m. The

On Saturday, March 19, at 9:00
a.m. in the Jacksboro High
School the Upper West Fork
Soil and Water Conservation
District is sponsoring a Plant
Identification, Range Judging
and Soil Judging Contest. The
contest is open to the Five
counties which comprise this
district. There will be FFA
and 4-H classes. The 4-H
contests will be divided into
Junior and Senior classes. Both
individual and team awardswill
be presented. The top three
• scores from a 4-H club will
count as a team score.
Divisions will be: Plant Iden-
tification—a minimum of 40
grasses and range plants, Range
Judging—a minimum of 20
plants will be used and Soil
Judging. Lunch will be served ;
free to all contestants and I
coaches. All 4-H members who
would like to receive training
and more information qn this
contest should contact the
county agents’ office.
On Saturday, March 26, the
District III 4-H Elimination
Contest will be held at Mid-
western University in Wichita
Falls. At this contest the Sen-
ior division winners are chosen
for the 4-H -Roundup activities ,
in June. The junior teams also
are Judged and receive awards
but cannot go on to Roundup. I
All the winning County demon- I
stration teams wil attend this
contest.
