Meets With Mrs. H W. Crumpton
We heard today, "Beverly and Loren s Hilton," located on
the northeast corner of the square was filled this week due to
District Court being in session so Chloe and Beverly King are
hosts to Lola Montes and her Svanish Dancers at their beauti-
ful home east of Lake Eddleman. The grouo will be presented
in the second concert of the season tonight Thursday, in Gra
ham Memorial Auditorium for members of the Graham Com
munity Concert Association The King s moved into their spac-
ious home earlier last week The lovely home is located amid
oak trees with a beautiful view of Lake Eddleman

Tuesday Evening
The Salem W. S. C. S. met
Tuesday, February 8, in the
church at 7 p.m. with the vice-
president, Mrs. J. C. Jackson
presiding. After a song and
prayer the reading of the min-
utes was read by Mrs. Dollie
Swaim. During the business an-
nouncement was made that the
annual district meeting would
be in Olney, February 24. Plans
were made for the "World Day
of Prayer” to be held here at
Salem Church February 25. A
beautiful devotional was given
by Mrs. J. C. Jackson reading :
from the 7th chapter of Matt-
hew. Her theme was, "They
prayed.” speaking of the great
prayers of the righteous men of
the Bible.
Mrs. Alton Guinn brought us
an inspiring program on "Life
as a Summons and Committ-
ment.”
We were happy to know that
our pastor’s wife, Mrs. Verne
Fuqua was at home after being
in the Olney hospital for several
days.

Guild Meets With

Mrs. Frank Rickels was hos-
tess to the Graham organ Guild
at her home February 8, at 2:30
p.m. The President, Mrs. Louis
Pitcock, conducted a brief busi-
ness meeting. The Year Book
Committee was appointed with
Mrs. H. E. Ecklund, program
chairman, assisted by Mrs.
Earl Garvey and Mrs. W. S.
Lentz. The club voted topresent
a gift to the City Beautification
for the Stand-Pipe Mountain
Park Project. Mrs. Jack Flet-
cher and Mrs. W. S. Lentz
were appointed to meet with the
Chamber of Commerce Com-
mittee.
Mrs. Earl Garvey opened the
program by presenting a “Med-
ley of Love Songs,” in keeping
with the Valentine theme. Miss
Jo Beth Rickels played "Moon
River” and Steven Wolf played
"Poe’me” and “Heart of My

Mrs. E. C. Garvey was hos-
tess to the Mary-Martha Sunday
School Class, of the First Bap-
tist Church, Thursday, Febru-
ary 3.
Mrs. C. Lee Jones presided
in the absence of the president,
Mrs. C. W. Ault. Mrs. Grover
Hays opened the meeting with
prayer, Mrs. Ross Roark read
the minutes of the last meeting.
There were several mem-
bers absent on account of ill-
ness.
Mrs. Stella Parsons’ grand-
daughter was reported to be
recovering from surgery.
Class members took cake and
cookies to the Eden Home. They
also took cup-towels to be used
in the church kitchen. Mrs.
Jones gave the devotional read-
ing scripture Hebrews 1:1-11.
Hot cinnamon rolls, potato
chips and coffee Were served
to nine members.
Next meeting will be the first
Thursday in March.

Jesus,” were examined and dis-
cussed after which the group
chose “Moments on the Mount,”
by Ralph Sweet as the text for
the Bible study during the com-
ing months.

“All the Promises of the Bi-
ble,” closing the lesson with
the group giving the Twenty
Third Psalm in unison follow-
ed by the Missionary Benedic-

The Loving Home Demon-
stration Club met Tuesday,
February 1 at 2:00 p.m. in the
Fellowship Hall of Loving Meth-
odist Church with Mrs. Joe
Beard as hostess.
Roll call was answered with
“Safety Tips tor the Home.”
Mrs. Roberta Hawkins gave a
very interesting program on
“Safety.” Safety on the high-
ways and around the home was
discussed. Of particular inter-
est to mothers were the new
non-famable materials, Roxel
and Nomex which would be ideal
for use in making children’s
clothing.
The next meeting will be Feb-
ruary 15, at the church with
Mrs. Ellen Harrision, county
H. D. Agent, giving the pro-
gram on "Colors.” The Jean
H. D. Club will meet with the
Loving Club on that day.

elementary education major at
Baylor, is a Graham Highschool
graduate. She was queen of this
year’s “Howdy Week” ob- j
servance at the university.

The Junior Nature Garden
Club met at the Woman’s Club,
Monday, February 7 at 4:00
o’clock with Miss Christine
Joyce, leader, directing the ac-
tivities. She opened the meet-
ing by leading the members in
the Conservation Pledge, and
followed by a talk on “Why I
Belong to a Junior Garden
Club.”
Kim Coffman, secretary,
called the roll, each junior
answering with “My Favorite
Tree.” Debra Martin discussed
the state tree of Maine, the
pine tree, and Patricia Hol-
man described the state shrub
of Idaho, the Mock Orange,
which was so named because it
was the favorite flower of Ptol-
emy II, surnamed Philadelphus,
who reigned over Egypt nearly
300 years before the Christian
era.
Kim Kendall, president, In-
troduced Mrs. J. B. Childress
who discussed "Beautifying
home yards with flowering trees
and shrubs.” She stated that
pussy willow or catkin which
developes in March and April
make graceful arrangements.
She also spoke of the Japanese
flowering cherry trees in Wash-
ington D.C. also fruit trees in-
cluding apricot, peach, pear,
plum and apple. Some of the
favorite blooming shrubs used
for landscaping include Forsy-
thia, commonly called "Golden
Bell,” Crepe Myrtle for edging,
Splrea or Bridal Wreath, Sum-
mer lilac, the pink and white
flowering almond with the beau-
tiful double flowers.
Others are hardy Azalias also
Pyrocantha and Nandina tor
their bright red or orange ber-
ries on which the birds thrive.
Mrs. Childress conducted a quiz
among the juniors on the blooms

home of Mrs. H.W. Crumpton in
Graham, Tex. The home was
beautifully decorated in keeping
with the Valentine motif.
Mrs. Morris Newby, Pres,
presided. Minutes of the last
meeting were read and ap-
proved A It was moved and
seconded that Mrs. W.S. Morris
select a book for the Library
in her Department. Each De-
partment chairman was re-
minded to get her report in
by the 10th of February.
The President appointed a
nominating committee of Mrs.
M.C. Clanton, Mrs. J.P. And-
rews Jr. and Mrs. T.L. Star-
buck.
Mrs. Crumpton moved that
we send a donation to the Peru-
vian village. Motion was
seconded and carried.
Mrs. G.C. House, Jr. was
leader of the program open

Affairs. She quoted the quotation

Mrs. S.B. Hockaday was host-
ess to the members of Circle III
of the Presbyterian Ghurch for
their regular meeting February
7, three o’clock, P.M. The
meeting was called to order by
the chairman, Mrs. E.A. Hene-
gar, followed by an opening
prayer by Mrs. P.S. Phillips.
A short business session was
held outlining the immediate
future plans of the Women of
the Church.
The Bible study of the 2nd
Chapter of Acts was given by
Mrs. T.M. McKinney in which
she brought out that this
chapter of Acts depicted the
early Church as a Joyful
Church. Mrs. McKinney also
made a definite distinction be-
tween being “glad” and being
"Joyful”, both individually and
as a Church group.
Membership attendance was
excellent. The Circle welcomes
Mrs. Roy /Dies as a new
member, and were pleased to
have Mrs W.M. Lacy, of
Houston, Texas, as a visitor.
A refreshment plate and time
of fellowship were enjoyed by
all present

gave some very informative in -
formation as to it’s people,
industry, climate, etc. Itcovers
only fifty miles and the Isle
of a Hundred Harbors.
Miss Cleo Caldwell spoke on
Berlin. She stated the Berlin is
the largest city in Germany.
She too, gave outstanding statis-
tics of History and of the
Religions of their country.
The meeting was adjourned
and a lovely refreshment plate
was served.

Oregon were at Evans Chapel
near Bryan Saturday to attend
the funeral of Mr. John House,
a brother of Rev. House.
