Clean-up Day Set For
Wednesday, May 18
Wednesday morning, May
18, at 8 o’clock is the time
set by the 1937 Study Club
for a. Clean-Up Day at the
Ladonia City Park and play-
ground.
Every resident of Ladonia
is urged to report on this
date for work at the city
property adjacent to the Pe-
can Gap highway, where a
wooded section to be used as
a picnic area and playground
will be cleared of small trees,
shrubs, vines, and other un-
dergrowth. Each person
should bring his own work
tools such as hoes, rakes,
axes, hatchets, or handsaws.
Plans are under way for the
installation of picnic tables,
benches and outdoor fire-
places shortly after Ladonia
citizens cooperate in this
Providence
The annual homecoming of
the Providence Cemetery in
the Bartley-Woods commin-
| ity will be held Sunday, May
.22, it has been announced.
The affair will feature a
j worship service in the Bart-
h ley-Woods school auditorium
in the morning, - a basket
lunch in the school gymnas-
ium at noon and a musical
I program and business session
in the afternoon.

Dinkins Injured
George Dinkins, Ladonia
negro, apparently lost con-
trol of a car he was driving
early Thursday morning and
as result, the car was vir-
tually demolished and Dink-
ins was hospitalized in the
Clean-up Day at Ladonia City
Park and playground.

Clements To Manage
Magnolia Station Here
The Magnolia Service Sta-
tion on the northwest corner
of the square in Ladonia is
now open for business under
the management of William
Clements, C. D. Cooper, Mag-
nolia agent for the Ladonia
area has announced.
The formal opening will be
held tomorrow (Saturday) at
which time favors will be
given to all attending the
formal opening. “There’ll be
lollypops and balloons for the
kiddies, hand lotion for the
ladies and pencils for the
men,” Mr. Clements said.

Wolfe City hospital as result
of injuries received.
The accident occurred at
the city limit sign on high-
way 34 west of Ladonia
around six o’clock Thursday
morning. Dinkins was driv-
ing toward Ladonia when the
car veered off the highway,
I tearing down the city limit
sign and after hurtling a
small ditch and fence and
turning over several times
came to a stop in the pasture
north of the C. M. Gilbert
service station.

Citizens Warned
About Disposal
Of Dead Animals
The Ladonia City Commis-
siton issued a warning this
week that it is strictly aga-
inst the law to dump dead an-
imalson the new city dump-
ing site east of the city on
the Pecan Gap highway.
City officials pointed out
to dump dead cows, hogs,
.horses, dogs, etc., on the
-site created both a nuisance
and a health problem as well.
In an advertisement .in this
‘week’s News, the City states
that anyone dumping dead
.animals on the site will be
“prosecuted to the full extent
of the law.”

brary. •
The photo published last
week, together, with $5 of
the prize money was furnish-
ed by W. A. Ross of San Ben-
ito, former Ladonia resident.
The other $5 was supplied by
Chief A. B. Cain’s Cain De-

Fannin County’s smaller
schools have expressed their
opposition to any redistrict-
ing, feeling that the smaller
schools can “render a better
service to the students and
people than the larger
schools.”
The schools also oppose fed-
eral aid for building, but feel
that funds for building pur-
poses should come from state
rather than local sources.
In a meeting held in Bon-
ham attended by representa-
tives from 13 of the 15 school
districts in the county, the
school officials agreed that
the smaller district could do
the teachig job more eco-
nomically than a larger dis-
trict, adding that increased
transportation and building
costs would send the ex-
penses of the larger district
up.
Representatives of the
smaller districts said that

Boy Scouts of the Bois d’
’ Arc district will have an op-
portunity to warm up for
■ summer camp on Glover
river, Okla., in the district
camporee to be held at the
Bonham Scout Camp Satur-
day, May 21, it is announced
by Boyd Williams, chairman
of the district camping and
activities committee.
Scout troops will check into
the camp at noon on Satur-
day, May 21, spent the night
in camp and leave for home
early Sunday morning, Wil-
liams said.
“The boys will do their
own cooking on a patrol basis
Saturday night and Sunday
morning,” Williams said.
“This is the same type of
cooking they will do at the
summer camp to be held on
Glover river in Oklahoma
during the month of June.”
Williams pointed out that
the. Scout troops would bring
their own food, cooking uten-
sils and sleeping equipment
for the overnight camporee,
but added that water would
be furnished the units.
“The only difference be-
tween the camporee we have
scheduled for May 21 and the
summer camp will be that in
summer camp, the food will
be issued to the units for
each meal and they will pre-
pare them in their patrols,”
Williams said.

Mrs. Milford Stailey
Rites Pending
Mrs. Milford Stailey, 67,
passed away Thursday morn-
ing in a Greenville hospital.
She had been a patient there
for the past ten days. Sur-
vivors include her husband,
five daughters and four sons.
Funeral arrangements had
not been completed at press
time. A complete obituary
will be published in next
week’s News.

Abb Hembree Rites
Held In Florida
Relatives in this area have
received word of the death
of Abb Hembree in Madison,
Floria. Monday afternoon,
May 3. Funeral services were i
held there Tuesday.
Mr. Hembree formely lived
south of Bonham and moved,
to Florida about 2 years ago.!
Surviving are: a sister,
Mrs. Fannie Terry of Bon-
ham; two brothers, Frank:
Hembree of Leonard, route 2;
and J. W. Hembree of Madi-1
son, Fla.; four sons, R. L.
Hembree, John Hembree both
of Ardmore, Okla., Joe Frankl
Hembree and Jimmie Hem- i
bree both of Gainesville, Fla.:'
and several nieces and neph-
ews. Paul Hembree of Bon-
ham is a nephew.

Anson Jones Waller, 52,1
Ben Franklin merchant, died j
Monday about 5 a. m. in a!
hospital in Paris, where he I
was taken last week after
suffering a heart attack.
The funeral, Tuesday at 4
p. m. was held at the Method-
ist Church at Ben Franklin,
and McDonald Funeral Home
of Cooper made burial.
Anson Jones Waller, was I
born at Anson, December 7,
1902, son of the late L. H. |
and Ophelia Dora (Hurley) I
Waller. He operated a grocery
and filling station at Ben
Franklin, and was tractor-
plowing a plot of ground be-
hind the place, when he was
strickeu.
Surviving besides wife, the
former Miss Mary Taylor, are
two sons, Taylor Waller and
Billy G. Waller, both of Ben
Franklin, and a sister and a
brother in Dallas, J. C. Wal-
ler and Mrs. Bryan Brackeen.
Mrs. Waller is a duaghter of
Mr. and Mrs. George Taylor
of Ladonia.
