“Those who do not have
children in the district owe it to
themselves to become accurately
informed, as the chances are high
that at some point each person will
come in contact with an AIDS vic-

Tonight's seminar is designed to
meet ah those needs he said

The second community-wide
seminar on “Family Life Educa-
tion and AIDS Awareness” will be
held from 7 to 9 p.m. today
(Thursday) in the high school
auditorium The focus will be on
the videotape and other materials
that will be used with Lake Travis
students in grades 8-12.
While the seminar is open to
everyone in the school district,
parents are particularly encouraged
to attend, according to Dr. Frank
Jennings, assistant superintendent
for curriculum and instruction.
Jennings developed the Acquired
Immune Deficiency Syndrome
(AIDS) curriculum for the district.
“Parents should be
knowledgeable of the true facts
about AIDS, and communication
needs to be open and accurate be-
tween parent and child at all stages
of growth.” Jennings said. “Both
need to know how AIDS is spread
and how it is not spread, so they
will not panic if a student in the
schools or an adult in the communi-
ty contracts AIDS.”
In addition, he said, students
must be prepared to make the cor-
rect choices and to develop the
behavior patterns that will protect
them from the transmission of
AIDS. Parents should be
knowledgeable about, and comfor-
table with, the Family Life Educa-
tion curriculum at each level

standard to watch on air condi
tioners is the Seasonal Energy
Efficiency Ratio, or SEER
The federal government
requires that the SEER be avail
able for new air conditioning
units. The SEER is calculated by
dividing the output of cooling
units, or BTU s. by the wattage
used during a normal annual

the SEER affixed to the unit, or
