On the left side of the stage Putegnat, a woman wearing a light-colored dress, is sitting on a stool in front of a piano and looking towards Starr, who is standing in the center of the stage wearing a hat, dark-colored blouse, and skirt, and holding a baton Five men are standing in a row behind her and on the right side of the stage two women wearing dark-colored dresses are sitting in chairs next to a young boy wearing a light-colored suit who is standing in front one of the men. In front of the stage several soldiers holding musical instruments are seated on the left and right and there are flowers on the edge of the stage in the middle. In the foreground several rows of empty benches are visible and above the stage an American flag is hanging from the ceiling in front of a chalkboard with some writing on it. A text on the front of the photograph reads "Song Recital By Freda Starr Fort Brown Tex 4\4\18."
