Our attention was called this week to the City Dog Pound,
located near the Auction Sale Bama. Earl Pool, who lives on the
Jean Highway and a lover of dogs, brought in a picture of the
“last dog home”. '
Some ot the dog lovers in the city are not too happy shout
the situation as the building is rather small and with only tiny
holes cut into each cage for the dogs, and they receive very
little fresh air and no sunshine.
These complaints suggest that the city should build a
chain fence around the dog house so that the animals can get
out into the open air and have exercise, and, too, when the
owners come to claim their pets they could see them if they
were outside. Dogs should not be punished and locked up in
small holes, for after all, they are dumb animals and depend
upon man to feed and protect them. Most of our city coun-
cilmcn like dogs and have from one to two of their own and
we feel that they will investigate this unpleasant thing con-
cerning our dumb animals.

A group of women, who are all close friends, celebrated
their birthdays over the over-end. with two coming up this
week. Mrs. J. G. Elliott has celebrated more birthdays than
any of the group. Others were Mrs. A. G. Cox, Mrs Marvin
McCleskey, and Wednesday, Sept. 27 is the birhday of Mrs. G. A.
i Man-1 Bills, and Friday, Set. 29, is the birthday of Mrs. W. G.
Mobley.
As wc have said before, birthdays are rather nice things
to have after the majority of the people pay no attention to the
years and a few others don't mind the public knowing their age.
Eleanor Roosevelt, a former First Lady of the White House,
doesn't mind the press knowing how old she is and this reminds
us. Eleanor will be celebrating a birthday, October 8, which
happens to be the birthdays of Mrs. W. H. -McPherson and Mrs.
R. C. (Mary Alice) Turner, and for all wc know the three love-
ly ladies may be planning to celebrate their Birthdays together
''Clobe-teoMingf, and in another year or two. they will prob-
ably be celebrating the occaaion on the moon.

The program will climax with the presentation of the

Lady The public is invited to attend the all-day meeting, and

nerve the noon day meal.
The Upper Room S. S. Class
of Jean Methodist Church met in
the home of Mrs Mary Nell Rod-
gers, Olney. Thursday evening.
President, Mrs Erma Haygood
opened the meeting by asking the
group to sing the cless sung after
which Irene Davis led in prayer
Roll call was answered by a
memory of early school days
which was very interesting and
amusing. One said she hated, to
have to carry the dinner bucket,
several were frightened op their
entering school, one said she did
net lik* the teacher because she
made boys sit by her when they
were naughty. Perhaps the most
humorous was the one. who got
tickled and did not .want the
teacher to know she was laughing
and she covered her face with
her hands and laid her face on
the desk The teacher saw her
shaking with laughter and thought
she was having a chill, so she
covered her with several coots.
Mrs Earl Wheat reported to be
improving from her illness. Mrs
Ralph Crosswaithe was reported
