Manager James W. Aston, starting
the Log Book at the start of the
official Mercury Economy Run. The
I test car, which is a regular Mercury
8 stock model, will visit Mercury
- dealers in north and east Texas on
its eight-day circular tour.
! The notarised Log Book showing
j the mileage covered, amounts of
i gasoline and oil consumed and total
| cost of operation during the run
1 is open to the public for inspection.
Gasoline consumption is accurately
registered by a visible gasoline
meter mounted at the rear of the
hood. This test run * car was in
Graham last Tuesday.
“In conjunction with this economy
run, we have equipped a similar
test car, which is a regular Mercury
8 stock car, with the same visible
meter. We are; inviting the public
to make their own trial tests to
see how far they can travel on one-
tenth gallon of gasoline,’’ explained
LeSage Motor Co., local Mercury
dealer at Graham.
HERE'S HOW TO
STORE Nl'TS PROPERLY
COLLEGE STATION. — While
Texas-’ pecan crop ia estimated to be
considerably below par this year due
to drouth and insect damage, United
States Department of Agriculture
officials are setting the probable
j yield at around 17,000,000 pounds.
| Despite the fact that the Texas
nut crop will be under par, is still
I» s good Idea to know- how to store
nuts properly, according to Grace
1. Neely, specialist ln~7oo<f preser-
vation for the A. and M. College
Extension Service. Chief difficulty
in keeping pecans fresh and criep
is the fat content which may be-
come rancid and ruin the nuts for
subsequent use.
Storing not* in airtight contain-
ers and keeping them in a cool dry-
place away from the light prevent*
nuts from becoming rancid.
The specialist adds that pecans
may be canned, an idea new to many
house-wives. This process make* it
possible to keep pecans for use dur-
ing the hot summer months. Pecans
properly canned may be kept free
from rancidity If they arc kept in
the dark at room temperature dur-
ing the summer.
Pecans and other nuts are. not
only rich in fat content but also con-
tain protein. In addition they con-
tribute worthwhile amounts of vita-
mins, particularly Vitamin B-l, with
pecans furnishing Vitamin A. Prac-
tically all 1iut» are rich in phosphor-
ous, and unblanched almonds, wal-
nuts, and pecans are good sources
of iron. *

CHOOSE YOUR OWN.
Calendars for 1040 manufactured
by a Boston, Mass., firm carry two
dates printed in red for November—
the 21 and 28. In an envelope at-
tached to each calendar are turn
stickers of the same dsrtes, printed
in black. A slip of paper enclosed
reads- “Choose your own Thanks-
giving."
Lewis Cottcrn of North Royalton,
0., after varnishing the kitchen
floor asked his wife what she
thought of it. “Very nice,” she re- -
■ plied, “except you’re using maple j
j syrup instead of varnish." |
