An identical image in the Library of Congress has text at top and bottom of poster: "Journées Girondines. 1er, 2, 3, & 4 juin, 1916. Au profit exclusif des Oeuvres de Guerre du Département"; translated as: "Gironde Days. June 1, 2, 3, and 4, 1916. For the exclusive benefit of the Department's war charities". (Note that Library of Congress record has incorrect spellings in French and English. Correct spellings are from VADS (Visual Arts Data Service, web site at http://vads.ahds.ac.uk/collections/IWMPC.html), describing a copy of the poster in the Imperial War Museum Collection.)

Gironde is an administrative department in the Aquitaine region of France.
