ED GEORGE (Conductor) Ed George, a graduate of ACC, joined the faculty of
Abilene Christian College in September of 1969 as the director of the orchestra and
a instructor of music.
While attending ACC, he became a member of Phi Mu Alpha, a national music
fraternity. He is also a member of Texas Music Educators Association, and Texas
Bandmasters Association.
In 1961, he received his B.S. Ed, at ACC, and in 1963 his M.Ed.
He taught band at Deleon High School, and was at Lincoln Junior High School,
here at Abilene prior to coming to ACC.
In Abilene he plays double Bass in Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra.
JACK BOYD (Vocal Director) Jack Boyd completed his Bachelor of Science in
Music Education with a vocal concentration in 1955 at Abilene Christian College
and went to North Texas State University where he received the Master of Music
degree in music composition in 1959. He has also studied choral literature under
Dr. Jean Berger at the University of Colorado, and has finished all the residence
work and the preliminaries for the Ph D in Choral literature at the University under
Dr. Daniel Moe.
Mr. Boyd was choral director at Paducah Tilghman High School in Paducah,
Kentucky from 1957 to 1963. While living in Paducah, he formed the Paducah
Chorale, an adult civic chorus and conducted it until 1963. While in Kentucky, he
was the music director and composer for the Kenlake Amphitheatre in Western
Kentucky where he wrote the score and directed the music for an original drama
for two summers.
In 1964, he became assistant Professor of Music at the University of Dubuque,
Dubuque, Iowa until 1967. Last year, Mr. Boyd was the Music Director and
Conductor for ACC's homecoming musical Oklahoma! He has published articles on
various aspects of music in Music Journal, Choral Journal and Iowa Music Educator,
as well as articles on religious music in Christian Bible Teacher. He is currently
under contract with Parker Publishing Division of Prentice-Hall for several books in
the music field. He has also had over 150 musical works published.
Mr. Boyd is a member of The American Choral Directors Association, American
Choral Foundation, Music Critics Association, ASCAP, NEA, and MENC.
MARJ BAUCUM (Choreographer) The choreographer for the ACC production of
West Side Story is Marj Baucum who is well known to Abilene audiences for her
polished and professional choreography on many productions in the key city.
She has choreographed for Abilene Community Theatre, Guys and Dolls, Under
the Gaslight, Three Penny Opera, Bye Bye Birdie, West Side Story, Dark of the
Moon, and The King and L
The Baucum-Fulks association began in the spring of 1965, in the first Abilene
Philharmonic production, Oklahoma! He directed and designed the musical
production with Mrs. Baucum choreographing. It was an instant hit. The following
year their talents were blended again in a sparkling production of South Pacific for
the Abilene Philharmonic Association.
Since then, Mrs. Baucum has choreographed several ACC Homecoming musicals
in association with Mr. Fulks. She has displayed her talents on Kiss Me Kate,
Unsinkable Molly Brown, and ACC's production of Oklahoma!
In tonight's production of West Side Story, her artistry, talent, and sensitivity are
evidenced time and again in the range and versatility of the choreography in the
production.
