Republic of Texas in Congress assem-
bled. That the sum of five thousand
..dollars. or as much thereof ns may be
necerssary be and the samo is hereby
appropriated to defray the contingent
expenses ol both houses of Congress.

Linnvillc and states that he suib Linn-
villo in Ilamos and an army compo-
sed of Mexicans and Cherokee Indi-
ans in number iboul 2500. Captain
Watts is killed and Major O'Niel; the
inhabitants (led naked to their Bonis.
Capt. Hanson has hoard that Victoria
and Dimits have also been burned.
Watts' wife is a prisoner. This news is
not to be neglected Hanson saw. Linn-
ville in flames and also the army para-

rapidity with which emigration js flow
ing into Texas would render it almost
impossible efiecMally to effect such a
measure as by the tiijio returns could

Texas is populating much faster than
Eastern Texas; and though at this time
the inhabitants East ol the Trinity mav
outnumber those West it is very cer-

Some persons have expressed a do-
sire to know the opinions of the candi-
dates before t'le people for Congress
upon this subj n. We answer for all
of them they wi'l strenuously opposa
