Just Curious ? By Florence Reeh
Things you can live without knowledge of\ if you have to:
Does a green bell pepper ever
ring? Who named it that?
Ever get “mixed up?” With
what?
Ever ask anyone a “pointed
question?” And did you ever ask
a “blunt” question? What is the
difference, pray tell?
Why are goodlooking women
sometimes referred to as a “fox”
or a “tomato?” I wouldn’t think
those things could be compared
to WOMEN!
Ever see anyone go “lumber-
ing” down the street? How’d they
do that?
What does “water logged”
mean? Can something besides a
log get it?
Ever have a “brain storm?”
Noisy, I imagine.
Did you ever write this on a
wall someplace: “People’s names
and monkey’s faces alwys seen
in public places?’
When was the word “snack”
first used to designate a “bite to
eat?”
What ever happened to “Punch
and Judy” the puppets?
Why is the business end of a
hanging rope called a “noose?”

have so many pretty quilts en-
tered in the show. Boy, us quilt
lovers could go really wild look-
ing at all of them. She would not
pose for a picture, but I can tell
you she is a tall, goodlooking lady
and has the nicest smile!
CARTHAGE., saw Bob
McDonald at the grocery store.
He and Betty are okay and love
their new home on Hwy. 79.
OFFICE... Bob Bowman, of
Bob Bowman & Assoc, came in.
He was looking for Soso Park.
Bob is a columnist and publishes
books, newsletters, does video
productions, etc. Busy man. Also,
Archie McDonald, executive
director and editor of East Texas
Historical Association. He will be
addressing TAGHS, Timpson’s
Historical Society, this week. Note
their picture.
OFFICE...Faye Bryce is
moving to San Antonio where she
will be near her children. She will
be missed by all of us. But she
promises to let us hear from her
and we will be telling her some
things about the quilters from time
to time. Bless you, Faye.
HOUSTON...Jane Kepner
sent a note: Thanks for continu-
ing to send the paper ‘til I real-
ized I owed for it! Maybe one of
these days we’ll have time to stop
and met ya’ll. Marshal Walker
knows us, but I don’t know if he
knows I’m a Methodist with danc-
ing feet and really enjoyed those
articles Doug used to write about
dancing in Longview, etc. Those
were the good ole days! (Come
on by, Jane, would love to meet
you).
OFFICE...Knock a plank off
the wall! Blow the siren! Kerry
Beard came in today to make
copies! He said it was the first
time inside this building in over 20
years. Kerry is our druggist and
we could not manage our lives
We are pleased to salute

without him. He said when he was
a kid, his dad’s drug store was a
couple of building down from our
office and he said there was a soda .
fountain and everything. Drugs
were delivered from Garrison
about twice a day and when he
delivered here, he’d always get a
soda or ice cream. He was re-
cently elected to the Garrison ISD
Board of Trustees and we con-
gratulate him. He said they had a
meeting set for Tuesday night. We
will let you know how he handled
things
OFFICE...George Orum,

George pose for a picture.

TENAHA...we are sad and
mad to hear of vandalism and
other mischief around town. We
are working like mad to make our
town and area into a place we are
proud to be a part of, so take some
lessons from the Bible, Creeps!
Well, you hear it often, "it’s a
small world." I discoverd Mon-
day, Tenaha's city judge is the off-
spring of a scoolmate of mine.
Judge Martha Brennion-Nease's
Mother and Dad, Jen Hayden
Brennion and Dutch enjoyed a
Lobo class reunion with Florence,
Me and all the gang of ‘41 a
coupla' years ago. Jen and one of
the better "Jitterbuggers" of our
day, Clara Jean Hodges, nee Har-
ris, are close friends and do many
things together. Memories of
dancing with Clara Jean at the
"Patio" are still vivid in my mind.
It didn't take Glenn Miller's "In
The Mood" to set us off, we lived
in a rythmic state. Who could sit
still with Count Basie's "One
O'clock Jump" filling the air, and
of course, Tommy Dorsey's "
Boouie Wooeie." There were also
many great slow tunes with that
special beat, Sammy Kaye's
"Daddy" was a good one among
others. I have many of the old
favorites on cassettes that Flo-
rence and I listen to between
home and the T&T News office.
Clara Jean and I could do a spe-
cial "Kick Step" together that I
think she wanted to try at the re-
union, but I didn't have the nerve.
Oh well, memories are made of
this.
I don't think I know "Dutch,"
but Clara Jean's Frank and I
shared a lot of time on the "sand
lots." Most everyone had a nick-
name, his was "Ox," mine was
"Floogie.”
Virginia Leak Jones, I'm gaz-
ing at your annual pic as I write
this, Hi,!
