Students Begin
Annual Project
Plans are underway for ihe an-
nual LHS Student Council Christ-
mas project. Homerooms are
pledging their support for the
drive to make the holiday season
brighter for underprivileged chil-
dren.
As in previous years, homerooms
will volunteer to fill bags of fruit
and candy or to contribute small
gifts for students in the Guadalupe
and Sanders elementary schools
whose families are unable to pro-
vide some of the Christmas gifts
which others enjoy.
Homerooms will be paired so
that each child will receive both
treats. Contributions will be col-
lected by the Student Council.
Representatives from the council
will go to the schools to deliver
the treats Dec. 19.
Anybody Wood --
--If They Could
WHILE SELLING ribbons in the
student council booth during the
lunch hour last week, a certain
junior boy became carried away
with the scent of the perfume
worn by his female selling partner.
Repeatedly, the boy compliment-
ed his friend on how nice the fra-
grance was, becoming more en-
thusiastic about it w‘ith each plau-
dit. Finally, he asked what the
name of the intoxicating perfume
was. The girl explained that it
was a popular scent by Faberge
called “Woodhue.”
"WOULD WHAT?" quizzed the
boy.
•“Woodhue!” she repeated.
"BOY, WOULD I ever!” he glee-
fully replied.

THE BLACK and gold autograph
hound that serves as a mascot for
Future Teachers ef America rests
on the desk of Miss Laurene Bus-
sey, Teacher-of-the-Month for No-
vember.
Each month, FTA members will
vote on the one teacher that they
feel deserves special thanks for
making learning a worthwhile ex-
perience. The teacher chosen each
month will autograph the dog and
keep it for the term of their honor.
Miss Bussey, a graduate of Texas
Tech, teaches second-year algebra.
April 10 of last year, she celebrat-
ed her “silver anniversary” after
teaching at Lubbock High for 25
years.
“I never cease to be amazed at
the enthusiasm that my students
exhibit,” comments Miss Bussey,
“some people say that there is a
generation gap, but I don’t think
that there is. My students would
do almost anything I ask them to,
and I’d do the same for them. I
think that’s wonderful,” concludes
Miss Bussey.
MISS BUSSEY also says that she
has no immediate plans to retire
from teaching, “I’m enjoying this
too much,” she comments.
Class Tells Holiday History
HONOR American History class-
es presented this year’s Thanks-
giving Assembly.
The religious theme of Thanks-
giving was the spotlight topic as
the scene went from the American
Indian to modern day’s disgust
with the whole affair.
Lincoln’s proclamation making
this a national holiday was includ-
ed, along with a scene of an old-
time family gathered around the
family fireplace.
A PURITAN reunion, along with
the first Thanksgiving Day at Val-
ley Forge implemented to theme.
Stress was also placed on the
American Indian and his great
contributions to the American so-
ciety.
MR. DWAYNE Reeves sponsored
the program.
Congratulations are in order to
the Lubbock High "Fighting West-
erner" Band for their showing
in the University Interscholastic
League band contest. The band
received a two rating in the
