GOOD NEWS
FISHING AND HUNTING
The cold weather has been
making things a bit unpleasant,
but good duck hunting and fish-
ing has helped take the edge off
the chill. The hunting guides are
reporting a real improvement in
duck hunting with some good
bags of sprigs and pintails. The
protected redheads are still
thick, but now there are plenty
of legal birds to make for a good
hunt.
Some of the big fishing news
comes from offshore. The Thun-
derball boated 5 barracuda one
day last week, one of them
weighing over 20 pounds. AND
they had a sailfish jumping just
off the stern of the boat. They
also brought in a good size king-
fish last weekend. Bill Hart
scored a dolphin the other day
when he took a party out to
generally good, with a few really
spectacular days on the North
Jetty, when fishermen were
literally loading sacks w'ith large
trout and 3 to 5 pound redfish.
The devoted surf fishermen
have been finding some nice red-
fish and drum along the Gulf
beach, but there has been a lot
of floating grass the past few
days. There are still a few
flounder being caught along the
channel and the sheepshead sea-
son is off to a good start.
So, if fishing or hunting is
your thing, come on.
But please, help us keep our
island and waters clean. Though
the beach is cleaner than ever,
there are still those few who
continue to dump their trash
and unwanted fish at the wa-
ter’s edge. There has been good
cooperation on keeping the City
