DENISON,
Mr................JAN. ft .879-
North T«xu Mzl-Contentz.
,...... .....
The Bonhttn News join* the mal-
contents of Southern Texas, and the
Galveston and Houston papers in
endeavoring to defeat the Texas &
Pacific railroad. Huntington and
the Northern Pacific monopoly have
.a zealous advocate in that journal.
It is a strange position for a North
Texas paper to take. Thevp is
certainly intelligence enough in that
section to perceive that if Hunting-
ton succeeds a competing road . to
California will be our of the ques-
tion. North «nd East Texas have
too great an interest in this impor-
tant question to remain silent. If
the News is right, then the ablest
statesmen ot the South are wrong,
and the odious m nopoly that now
exists should be perpetuated.—Mar-
shall Herald.
When editors, like other pi ivate
individuals, talk about a matter, they
should at least know what they are
talking about. “Huntington and
the Northern Pacific,” we are told,
“have a zealous advocate in the Bon-
ham News.” Huntington has about
the same interest in the Northern
Pacific that the man in the moon
has. Has the editor of the North
Texan read the proceeding of the
late convention at New Orleans?
If he has he must be absent mind-
ed, for of all the thirty-four Tom
Scott delegates from Texas that
convention, everyone of them voted
for Congress to aid the Northern
Pacific as well as the Texas Pacific
road. It was onlv the delegates
from Denison, Galveston and Hous-
ton that voted against the resolution.
Again we are told that “it is a
strange position for a North Texas
paper to take.” Why is this? Does
Mr. Scott run North Texas in fee
simple, that no one in North Texas
has a right to say a word against his
scheme to get the government to
build him a road that is known east
of the Mississippi as the Pennsyl-
vania road, and west of that river
as the Texas & Pacific?
Again, it is Mr. Huntington’s wish
that the Texas Pacific shall meet

Liver is King.
The Liver is the imperial organ of the
whole human system, as it controls the
life health and happiness of man. When
it is disturbed in its proper action, all
kinds of ailments are the natural result.
The digestion of food, the movements ot
the heart and blood, the action of the
brain and nervous system, are all imme-
diately connected with the workings 01
the liver. It has been successfully proved
that Green’s August Flower is unequaled
in curing all persons afflicted with dys-
pepsia or liver complaint, and all the
numerous symptoms which result from j

Some editors in Texas insult de-
cency by the publications they make
in reference to the Veal scandal.
Let Veal be guilty of the charge al
leged against him, and still lie is in-
finitely the superior of all men who
take delight in pa-ading his crime
before the public.—Paris North
Texan.
We cannot agree with the North
Texan. Several papers in the State
have taken the same ground, holding
that we damage our State by giving
publicity to the crimes which are
committed within our borders. We
believe greater damage w’ould be
done in the long run by suppressing
such publications. The sooner that
the people of Texas are made to re-
alize that crime is on the increase
nnd the officers in a measure power-
less to suppress it, the sooner will
our law makers iealize the fact that
more stringent measures must be
inaugurated to protect the people
against criminals. So lar as the
Veal case is concerned it belongs in
the same category. Nothing can be
gained by suppressing the facts,
neither to the cause of rel gion, or
public morals.
