Notwithstanding the inclement weather
a small afid intelligent audience greeted
Mr. Tilton at Nolan llall last night. Mr.
Tilton is a ihan of tine and prepossessing
personal appearance on the stage as well
as off of it. His towering and well pro-
portioned form; his deeply cut and classic
feature?; his well proportioned hea<f,cloth-
ed with an abundance of the softest chest-
nut-biowa batr.aprinkled with silver; the
open and intellectual countenance—all—
•‘Tho’ modest, oh his embarrassed brow,
Nature had written 'gentleman.’ ”
His subject was one of the greyest and
most sublime ever touched by human
tt ought or grasped bv the human mind—
"The Problem of Life.” It was present-
ed as only the great scholar and orator
could—“A stream of pure language,
brightened by wit and humor, strong
with philosophy,.useful with ripe sugges-
tions, and powerful with impassioned or-
atory. '

GLORIFIED.
BY THOMAS 8. CGLUF.R.
Midway between two statues white
A young girl stood. Demure add a\vpct,
Her eyes all bright with gladsome light,
A perlect form from head to feet.
The sculptured stone upon the right,
As a small maiden full til grace.
With eyes that seemed tc sparkle bright,
And till with light t he fair, still face.
A noble marble, grandly fair,
Upon flic young gjrlla left hand stood,
And the people, pausing there.
Said: "’Tis the perfect womanhood.”
There were more statues standing near,
Rich with a beauty plain to view,
Rut none were there that shone so clear
Or seemed so perfect as these two.

A sulufecharm that none could tell.
Made bright the stones so still and cold;
The sunlight on them softly fell v
And decked the young girl’s hair with
gold.
St. Valentine’s day to morrow.
There will "be a total eclipse
She passed along. Though fair and white,
The marbles gieamed, they seemed
alone;
The living beauty was the light
