Forum Meeting Tonight
The Houston Forum on Pub-
lic Education is holding a meet-
ing tonight to discuss voca-
tional guidance. Mrs. Mary
Hampton, former visiting teach-
er, and James Gupton, director
of vocational education in the
Houston Independent School
District, will discuss “How Can
Our Schools Guide Students In-
to the Proper Vocations.” Meet-

and students was held last week by Father J. V. Thompson,
C.S.B. at the new Marion Catholic High School on Gulfton.

The second meeting of the
Great Bellaire-Southwest Nation
of Indian Guide Tribes is set
for tomorrow night at the Bel-
laire Presbyterian Church’s Old
Activities Building. It will be
formal Tribe Induction time for
almost 300 fathers and sons who
have organized in the newest
father-son activity in this area.
Sponsored by the Southwest
Branch of the YMCA, fhe In
dian Tribes swept through this
area with such enthusiasm that
Bellaire has become one of the
leading Indian Guide cities in
the South, says John S. Pyles,
YMCA Youth Program secretary.
Bound by the Nation Long-
house, the tribes have named
the following officers: Chief, Ar-
nold B. Allen; assistant chief,
E. W. Johnson; Tallykeeper, W.
E. Leimgrubler; Assistant Tally-
keeper, L. R. Scaff; F. M. Miles
and Alvis W. Grosson, publicity
chairman.
Tribe names and chiefs in-
clude the following: The Mo-
hicans, Fred Whiting; Kiowa,
Dr. Joseph Peacock Jr.; Coman-

A big crowd of interested
Sharpstown residents organized
the Volunteer Fire Department
Thursday night, named Robert
Paden, president, along with
other officers and gained infor-
mation from Houston, Bellaire
and West University Volunteer
chiefs attending the meeting.
Working with president Paden,
who is also safety director of
the Sharpstown Civic Club, will
be Merle Franke, vice-presi-
dent; Clinton Montgomery, sec-
retary, and Ivan Evans, treasur-
er.

a volunteer fire fighting group.
The Sharpstown Volunteers
accepted Chief Lehmann’s in-
vitation to train each Monday
night with the Bellaire depart-
ment until Sharpstown gets its
own equipment.
The newly organized group set
Dec. 6 as the next meeting time
and a time to enroll more vol-
unteers.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward J.
Kwiecin of 6031 Moonmist have
just returned from visiting his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony
Kwiecien in Toronto, Canada.
Mrs. William S. Giles is re-
cuperating at home, 4709 Locust,
following major surgery in a
Houston hospital.
