This map is a nautical chart showing the topography and hydrography of the area in Texas around the Galveston Entrance. The physical features are shaded and include the aerial layout of Galveston and nearby areas (relief shown by soundings). Depths are marked with shading (rendered in a dot pattern) and numbers in feet.

According to text at the bottom of the page (lower left corner), the various measurements to create the map were made between 1848 and 1852; the text also gives specific latitude and longitude of the area in the map and the locations of "Episcopal Church" and "Market House" in Galveston, Texas. Additional text along the right side of the map is labeled "Sailing Directions," "Note," "Tides," and "Remarks"; the text gives explanatory details regarding the markings and measurements on the map.
