Notes

"Description of Photo: 1911 Jacksonville business district scene, apparently on a Saturday of some kind of "trades day," judging from the crowd. Note the baggage service wagon at right. Tomatoes in the earlier four-basket crates in some of the wagons indicates photo could have been taken during tomato shipping season. At far left, sign on building advertises Bull Durham Tobacco, a chewing and smoking tobacco. Note at right standpipe for the city water works erected ca. 1906-07. Center, background, old First National Bank five-story building is well along toward completion. Extreme right is corner of Cotton Belt Railroad tomato packing shed, from which tomatoes were shipped yearly until late 1950s when tomato business died. Corner building at left was Sam D. Goodson Hardware Co. store operated from early 1900s until 1950s.

Jacksoville water tank said to have been sold to Cantron, TRxas, when larger one was built in Tower Heihts esction in late 1920s or early 1930s."
