Gamp. At this moment Bowin came
In, and said to Camp, "Let's clean the

and struck htm with a weight, breaking
his skull. Dr. Bell defended himself
against the ruffians, and although
severely bruised was not dangerously
injured*. Camp and Bowin made their
escape. Bowin, it seems entertained
an old grudge against Hall* which was
the supposed cause of the murder.

^ Wc hare been shown a letter from
a gentleman in Bird vilie, Tarrant coun-
ty, oT May 15th, to a friend in this
place, from which we were permitted
to make the following extract: M The
border counties are all down on Run-
nels. I do not believe that he will get
twenty-five votes in this or any one of
those conntics; and if Old Sam will
come out for Governor, in ten counties
I will insure him a majority of five
thousand votes. We now see that we
did the old hero injustice in th€ last
election. It is said an open confession
is good jbr the soul; and* if he will
come out, we will try and make amends
for past injuries.' In addition to this,
a day or two since we met au' old ac-
quaintance, who formerly lived in this
county, but now lives in Parker, who
assures U3 that the great .majority in
his region of country are clamorous for
the old General to become a candidate,
because they say the; people now need
just such a Governor as he will make.
