Notes

The former photography archivist at the Oklahoma Historical Society provided background information on these photographers: This Irwin and Mankins cabinet card was used in their Chickasha, IT studio between 1896 - 1898. Another copy of the same image is slightly cut down size appears in the Chickasha Daily Express Centennial Edition, April 19, 1992, p. 21. William E. "Ed" Irwin and Jack Mankins begin their joint venture in Nov. 1893 at Perry, OT. They stay together until Ed marries in 1900, after which Jack leaves and sets up independently at Ada, IT. The Irwin & Mankins board used in the Western Histories Collection is one of seven formats used between 1894 and 1900. They had one additional board during that period which only read: Photographers and View Artists.
