The Age of Steel says: “The indus
trial progress of the South is one of the
bright and somewhat surprising chap
ters in modern American history. It
has emerged from stagnation and im-
poverished means, and in its stern
grapple with difficulties has proven
itself resolute and indomitable. The
South lined up by the Red Sea, and it
crossed it, and as a factor in the world
of trade it is as potential as any.” The
Age of Steel presents statistics to prove
what it says and adds in conclusion:
"From all standpoin s the industrial
situation in the South is one of un-
wonted promise, and its future is yet
to be a revelation.”
Texas newspaper men suffer enough
under the scandalous libel law, or lack
of law, that now disgraces our statute
books, when here comes another trouble
in the shape of a paper trust that robs
them right and left. If the papers do
not take a firm and combined stand on
this matter, they ought never to kick
in the future, no matter what imposi-
tions are forced upon them.—Austin
