Text on photo mat: "Dear Miss Lydie: This is a way of saying Merry Christmas to you and to express my sorrow at our loss of Ned. This picture of Cholly was shot when he was hard at work and did not know he was a photo subject. I thought you might like one of him as he appears in his official capacity as managing editor---which he discharges with unusual ability. The best of you---always from one who remembers you every day. R. C. Harkwkin[?]"
