• During this present school year St. Edward's
University will celebrate the 7 5th year of its corporate
existence. The celebration will begin with the ground-
breaking ceremony of the new dormitory, December
8, 1959; and will close with the dedication of the new
structure on Founder's Day, October 13, 1960.
In its broadest aspects, the aims and objectives
of the 7 5th Year Celebration are to promote under-
standing of the present position of St. Edward's Uni-
versity in American higher education in general, and
in Catholic higher education in particular. A more
immediate aim is to project the development of St.
Edward's University in the light of its stated aims and
objectives and tempered by its present and anticipated
resources. This projection is to include the optimum
size of the student body, particularly boarders; the
faculty, its ultimate size and academic stature; the
curriculum and related programs; and, finally, a
consideration of the needs of the University in terms
of the physical plant.
The first campus activity for the 75th Year Cele-
bration will be the ground-breaking ceremony for the
new student residence hall. This ceremony will in-
clude: High Mass, the ground-breaking ceremony;

Groundbreaking for the new 150-man student resi-
dence hall will take place on the St. Edward's Univer-
sity campus on Tuesday, December 8th.
This event will officially open the Diamond Jubilee
Year of St. Edward's, and will be preceded by a Sol-
emn High Mass at 10:00 a. m. The Most Rev. Louis
J. Riecher, Bishop of Austin, will be in attendance,
and the Vincent Hall Scholastic choir will sing the
Mass.
The time set for the actual ground-breaking cere-
mony will be at 11:30 a.m. A reception for the
guests has been planned for 12 noon.
A new student residence hall will be located ap-
proximately 450 feet northeast of the recently con-
structed Science Building. It will be a reinforced
concrete structure, three stories high, and its style
of architecture will be similar to those in the immed-
iate vicinity. The building will be orientated in an
approximate east-west direction to minimize the solar
heat gain in the summer. This orientation is parallel
to the orientation of the Science Building.
The new building will have a 1500 square foot
lounge on the west end. A small chapel will be lo-
cated on the west end of this single-story lounge.
The room size and arrangement will be practical-
ly the same as that in Andre Hall, the interior walls
and partitions to be of structural clay tile. This ar-
