Description

Black and white photo-postcard of Bishop Hall of Bishop College, Marshall, Texas. The 19th century brick building of three stories is five bays wide with the entrance door in the central bay with paired round arched windows above it at the second and third floor levels. There also is a small three-story wing attached on the right side. A one story porch with balcony above extends across the entrance and two windows on each side, and a small cupola stands on the ridge line of the roof. Trees frame the view of the building. At the bottom of the image in white letters is the title, "Bishop Hall - Bishop College - Marshall, Texas. 6-J-66" Bishop College was established in 1881 as a Baptist college for African Americans in Texas. The school moved to Dallas in 1961. The campus was sold the same year. Its buildings were demolished. There is no postmark or message on the back of the card. Printed between the message and address sections: "Photograph card by W M Cline Co, Chattanooga, Tenn."
