J arolyn D. King, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the
Fifth Circuit, will address the South Texas College of Law graduates at
the graduation ceremony this year.
She has had an extremely impressive career and has been Chief Judge
since 1999. Her educational accolades include a summa cum laude from Smith
College with a major in philosophy and a membership in Phi Betia Kappa.
She attended Yale Law School with an emphasis on federal tax law; her worked
a summer with the Department of Justice in their Tax Division^
She then went on to work as an associate for Fulbright and Jaworski.
Afterwards, she was an associate and partner at Childs, Fortenbach, Beck and
Guyton and a partner at Sullivan, Bailey, King, Randall and Sabom. She spe-
cialized in federal securities, corporate, commercial and bankruptcy matters.
Her memberships include the American Bar association, State Bar of Texas,
Houston Bar Association, and Federal Bar Association.
She has received several awards, including an 'Outstanding Alumnus
Award' from Phi Betta Kappa Alumni of Greater Houston, and just this year
has received the Margaret Brent Award from the ABA Commission on Women.
