ACTIVITIES OF DELTA THETA PHI
Brother Robert Lowry, Judge of Juvenile
Court of Harris County, speaking at
Alumni-Student Luncheon, November 1.
Delta ThetaPhi National Law Frater-
nity established E. E. Townes Senate
at South Texas College of Law in 1956,
and presently consists of 129 members
and pledges. Invitations can be ex-
tended to students during their first
semester, as pledges, but in order to
become a member one needs to have
successfully completed at least one
semester of scholastic work.
Each semester members of Delta
Theta Phi make themselves available
during registration for any help they
may give an incoming new student as
well as maintain a "Delt" information
table in the library.
On Saturday, September 16 Delta
Theta Phi sponsored a very successful
Freshman Orientation Program at the
Harris County Courthouse. Some of the
topics discussed by individual speakers
included: How to Brief Cases, Taking
Law Finals, Class Preparation, and
"helpful hints on each instructor the
new student is likely to come under."
On Saturday evening, October 7, the
Delts staged their Annual Bar-B-Que
Beer Bust & Dance at the fraternity
house which produced a turnout of 275
persons.
October 9 & 10 are to be marked as
red letter days on the Delt calendar.
In the Student Bar Elections Delta
Theta Phi's 9 candidates were elected
by the student body to each position on
the Student Bar Board of Governors.
On October 21, Dr. Robert Bucklin,
Associate Harris County Medical Ex-
aminer, spoke at the Delt Professional
Seminar on "The Importance of the
Autopsy" and 115 students attended.
The session was illustrated by color
slides and proved to be most informa-
tive.
Delta Theta Phi, in addition to a
varied program for its student members,
also is very fortunate in having a very
active alumni association, the purchase
of our large fraternity house being an
example. On the first Wednesday of each
month the Alumni have a luncheon at
the White Horse Cellar which is open to
both alumni and student senate members.
Wives of Delta Theta Phi members
are also of importance to the fraternity
in the form of the Jurist Club, which
is composed of wives of members and
alumni, presently composed of 139
ladies, and offers events for the wives
of slumni and students as well as events
for both husbands and wives.
Home grown entertainment at a Delt
Friday night get-together at the frater-
nity house.
