Notes

Text at top of first page: "Bellevue, Clay Co.; Texas. Mr. J. H. Major, Elreno, Okla. Dear sir:- Awake! Arouse from your lethargy. A formal posture long maintained, as a rule."

Text starting on second page: "Precision:- Presented in the order and form of Unmistakeable simplicity seasoned with a little spicy wit and humor in the novel shape of an elm bush novelty or nonsense which Is a product of my conglomerated and complicated mind which is not cumbered with confusion like unto that of which you accuse yourself of being posessed [sic] of, thank goodness. I thank you very much for your eulogy in complimenting me with the lofty skyscraping title , or appellation of honor being a man posessed [sic] of a conglomerated mind; fraught withsuch precious complication. The definition of the word Conglomeration, is :- A gathering into a round mass; examine Webster will you please and avoid such flattery and […]eliness. Had I have been smart enough to use language to suit your fancy I probably would have said that your erroneous statement was an incomprehensible mess of confusion for it’s full of error and confusion instead of the misunderstood conglomeration. It is the style or mess of your conglomeration that I am complaining of. Do you propose to get mad at me and fly off the handle for the foolish elm bush joke, and the connection of the errors in your conglomerations and my seting [sic] them in a comprehensible businesslike manner which was simply assisting you to conglomerate with some degree of accuracy, and to stimulate and help you out of the mat of your complained of confusion? It may be that you don’t like my accuracy and matter of fact way of doing business, nevertheless I haven’t any better sense that to believe it about right."
