Bellevue, Clay Co.; Texas. June 19th 1899. Mr. Charles B. Thompson, Gen’l Mgr. Arabian Perfumo Co; Bridgewater, Conn.
Dear sir :- I am in receipt of your letter of June 19th ’99 in regard to business relation between you and my little step-daughter, to wit one Miss Minnie Barrett, at home; and which most heartless, and insulting letter it is my prerogative to answer.
The first that I knew of the said business some of my family got notice that there was a package of your _stuff_ in the express office for the said Minnie Barrett, and she paid the express charges on it which was .30 cts. and when she opened the said package she found that it was not what she had thought it to be, and she also found that she could not sell any of it, and some time after which, she received your advisory letter of April 27th 1899, in which you instructed her what to do with it, an din compliance with said instructions I had her to return said package to you by mail as instructed, retaining 4 of the little 10 ct. packets which amounts to .40 cts; the express charges was .30 cts, and the postage .18 cts making a total of .48cts expenses, leaving you due her .08 cts, and if you have not received the returned package it is no fault of hers for I addressed it myself as per your instructions and her mother mailed the same. As regards our character, you are at liberty to send skilled detectives, or otherwise pry into our integrity and veracity, and also forward to me the .08 cts due her on express by return mail.
Respectfully, J. J. Click. Step father of Minnie Barrett; Bellevue, Texas. (Clay Co;)"
