Notes

Text of letter: 18 January ’45 England.

Dear Mary Jane — Just two weeks from the day I am writing this you will be having your eighth birthday. I hope this will reach you in time for me to wish that it will be a very happy one for you.

I often wonder what you are doing at different times of the day — what kind of work you are doing at school — what kind of new freinds [sic] you are finding in studies as well as in people. I also wonder how much you are helping Mother at home. You know it is very much up to you to keep her from being too lonely or working too hard now that David and I are both away for a while.

How are you doing with your skating? I’ll bet you don’t fall down hardly at all any more.

I wonder if you have written me about what kind of a Christmas you had. I should very much like to know. Did you stay awake long enough to see Santa?

I hope I get a letter from you soon. Goodbye now - and be a good girl ‘till I get home again. Love Rog—
