The importance of milk in the
diet of human babies has been known
since the beginningt of time. But
now science hue discovered and
proved over a period of yeus of ex-
perimentation, that the universal
fodj, milk, is equalfy important for
baby chicks, growing birds, and lay-
inghens.
The same elements in mi& which
prevent rickets, malnutrition, aaM
tuberculosis in infants control in
precisely the same degree, the dis-
eases of chickens, coccidtosis and
structural deficiencies resulting
from malnutrition, scientific expen-
mentation has shown.
Experiments carried on for sev-
eral years at Rutgers University
have determined the [particular
elements of milk which are the in-
valuable health-inducing properties
of thiaage-old food. — "v - ~‘!
which young of all kinds, human beings
proper health conditions, the Rutgers experiment proved. ,< -
Dr. F. H. Clickner, research chemist of Rutgers, suooeeded fa> ®
a new milk-food, a powdered whey, which is a by-produst of er
which has the approximate analysis of 70 to 74 per eent of the
lactose, or milk sugar, and seven to nine per cent minerals.
The dry-milk product, evolved and perfected at Rutgers UnivssritylMW
been designated by the association of the United Btatee feed control
officials as milk sugar feed and is called Kraoo by the Kraft-Phenix Ch*e»
Corporation, under whose direction the experimental work was carried on.

A confession that might easily b«
mistaken for a recital of the dep-
redations of th#' celebrated Jesse
Janies has been made by Michael
Burke (above), 16-year-old son of
a St. Joseph, Mo., attorney. The
lad admitted that he had com-
mitted over 100 robberies during
