Postcard of the Shambles, a historic street in York. Multistory brick and timber buildings jut out over the cobbled street with each additional story protruding farther over the walkway. Shop windows displaying products for sale line the street. Several pedestrians stroll about. Signs along the street advertise different businesses, with the most prominent one reading "J. W. Collier." The back of the postcard identifies it as being part of the Salmon Series.
