Wright on charges of murder, mutiny, conspiring to raid the city of Houston, and assault, including the final verdict and sentence. The defendants were participants in the Camp Logan Mutiny.
The Camp Logan Mutiny, or Houston Riot of 1917, occurred on the night of August 23, 1917, when 156 black soldiers mutinied and then marched on the city of Houston, resulting in the death of sixteen civilians and policemen as well as five servicemen (the leader, Sergeant Vida Henry, committed suicide). The riot happened in response to the abuse of black soldiers by Houston police earlier that day.
