A curving banner extends from the buckle's bottom left corner to its upper right corner with the words "Arkansas Sesquicentennial" cut into the banner's metal. In the bottom right corner of the buckle two tall trees, an oil rig, and two small plants that may be cotton have been carved into the buckle. Centered near the top edge of the buckle is a circle with "Arkansas" carved at the circle's top between the dates 1836 and 1986, with "Sesquicentennial" carved at the circle's bottom. In the center of the circle curling lines have been carved towards the bottom on top of lines that are foreshortening towards the center of the circle, above which is a city skyline that includes a large, slightly square shape at its center. On either side of the entire circle are the dates 1836, on the left, and 1986, on the right. To the left of the circle and dates, above the buckle's banner, two flowers have been carved amongst leaves next to a cut gem and a building consisting of columns, triangular pediments, and a tall domed tower, resembling a courthouse in style. The entire buckle sits on a white cloth in the photo.
