Transcript of script: "(OIL) ROUGH SEAS ARE DELAYING EFFORTS TO PLUG A LEAKING UNDERSEA OIL WELL OFF THE CALIFORNIA COAST. THE SLICK IS GROWING BY ALMOST 1,000 GALLONS AN HOUR, BLACKENING MORE MILES OF CALIFORNIA BEACHES. THE SLICK IS AN ESTIMATES 500 SQUARE MILES IN SIZE AND MOVING TOWARD LOS ANGELES FROM SANTA BARBARA AT THREE MILES AN HOUR. -DASH- (A UNION OIL SPOKESMAN SAYS THERE IS NO INDICATION HOW SOON THE ELEVEN-DAY-OLD LEAD MIGHT BE PLUGGED. (IN WASHINGTON, PRESIDENT NIXON IS QUOTED AS SAYING ILITARY PERSONNEL AND EQUIPMENT WILL BE AVAILABLE IF NEEDED TO HELP COMBAT DAMAGE. (AND INTERIOR SECRETARY WALTER HICKEL IS REPORTED TO BE PLANNING TO ORDER AN END TO THE DRILLING.) (CRASH) AT LEAST TEN PERSONS WERE KILLED IN WHAT OFFICIALS SAY WAS AUSTRALIA'S WORST TRAIN CRASH IN GO YEARS. THEY SAY 100 PERSONS WERE INJURED--SOME CRITICALLY--WHEN A PASSENGER EXPRESS AND A FREIGHT TRAIN COLLIDED HEAD-ON 104 MILES NORTHEAST OF MELBOURNE THIS MORNING. POLICE SAY THE DEATH TOLL MIGHT RISE TO 30. A RAILWAY BOARD OF INQUIRY SAYS THE ACCIDENT WAS "PROBABLY DUE TO A HUMAN ERROR."
