The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with John F. Sleasman. Sleasman was born 16 June 1926 and joined the Navy in 1943. After attending boot camp at Sampson, New York he went to machinist school in Dearborn, Michigan. He then trained as a diver in Manhattan, New York and tells of the sunken USS Lafayette (AP-53) (formerly the SS Normandie) being used for training purposes.
