Keim to speak on
the fine points of
leadersh p
by Bobby Crook
Sports Editor
Discussing the finer points of leadership
for college students, noted public speaker
Dr. Will Keim is scheduled to address
University of Dallas students at 7 p.m.
Tuesday, Nov. 19 in Lynch Auditorium.
Keim's speech, titled Becoming a Better
Leader, is designed to assist college
students in maximizing their leadership
abilities.
According to his website, Keim has
delivered speeches to more than two million
students from over 1,000 universities. He
is also a published author with five books
to his credit, and counts several large
corporations in his clientele.
Fr. Charles Latour, associate dean of
students, was instrumental in bringing
Keim to LJD. He believes Keim's
background and experience in student
leadership development make him a great
speaker to have on campus.
"I have the utmost respect for Will
Keim," he said. "He is the grandfather of
college motivational speaking. He has
spoken to more students than any other
speaker, and will help students to become
a better leader going into the outside
world."
Latour hopes students attending the
speech will be able to respond to Keim's
message of leadership and participation.
"Hopefully, the speech will re-kindle
students' desire and interest to become
involved both at school and in the church,"
he said.
Aside from leadership, Keim also
stresses the importance of character and
morals during his speaking appearances.
Latour thinks students will benefit from this
crucial message.
"More than anything, the goal of anyone
in student development is to provide an
opportunity for students to grow and
develop," he said. "I think a program like
this will help to motivate students in that
direction."
Latour also believes the points conveyed
by a speaker like Keim assist in furthering
the overall principles UD hopes to instill
in each of its students.
"Our mission is to develop strong student
leaders in the Catholic tradition," Latour
said. "Ultimately, [Keim] stresses the need
for students to have a hunger to make a
difference. It's no good if they hide all the
skills and gifts they take with them into the
world."
Battle of the Basement

Killing Dr. Lucky., Falling, and Bug
absorbed science student's minds at the
Battle of the Basement last week.
About 15 students from the math,
computer science and physics
departments located in the science
building basement played games
requiring quick strategic thinking and
concentration.
Killing Dr. Lucky, a board game
similar to Clue, involves people trying
to kill Dr. Lucky out of sight of
witnesses.
Dr. Walker White and Dr. Paul
Philips, assistant professors of
mathematics, played the card game
Falling with students. In this fast-
moving card game, the last person who
is dealt the "ground" card wins.
The math club tied with the
computer science club in a round of
Bug, a chess game played by teams of
two, Farheen Assad, president of
computer science club said.
"It went really well. It wasn't a
competition," Assad said.
The Battle was the first activity
involving all the three clubs this
semester and provided an opportunity
for the occupants of the science
building basement to interact.
