The Dallas County town of Mesquite is stirred with
civic pride and oratory today. It has topped the 50-
thousand population mark. At the Chamber of Commerce
celebration luncheon -- Mrs. and Mrs. Joe
Hicks Junior are credited with making it possible...
by moving in from Grand Prairie last month with their
four children. And they are $ rewarded with two-
thousand dollars in gifts and gift certificates. Hicks

Mesquite began in the 18-80's as a one-man whistle-
stop on the railroad. Today, Mayor GeorgeBoyce calls
it "the brightest spot on the sunrise side of Dallas

as "a sleeping giant which has awakened to the demands
