Description: Message from Diego de Lasaga, Governor of Nuevo Santander, citing a royal decree from October 12, 1778 that allows free commerce for ports in New Spain. The lower portion of the document contains a response from the Viceregal agent saying that a 3% tax will be placed on goods coming into Nuevo Santander, as he collected them in Soto La Marina.

Description: Photograph of the Texas Historical Commission marker for Thomas Jefferson Shannon (1808-1864) in Sherman, Texas. Text: Thomas J. Shannon came to Texas in 1839 and settled in what became Grayson County in 1845. Elected first Grayson County representative to the Texas Legislature, he worked for relocation of the county seat to the present site of Sherman.
