Carswell recounts the events of the 1952 campaign and election stressing the need to repeat in 1954 their 1952 victory, by the election of Allan Shivers. He borrows from a statement by Benjamin Harvey Hill, "Who saves his country, saves himself, saves all things, and all things saved do bless him! Who lets his country die, lets all things die, dies himself ignobly, and all things dying curse him!"
