Chain-Steamer.

Description: Patent for a chain steamer that has an improved means of propulsion with a uniform speed despite a changing current. It does not allow the boat to laterally deflect. It is especially meant to be used with tow boats that travel on fast-moving, shallow streams. It can be used to move ferry boats across fast-moving rivers as well.

Description: Photograph of the Lavaca River Bridge after the wreck of the San Antonio and Aransas Pass "Don Milo" freight train. There are pieces of the wreck still in the water, and there are men on what is left of the bridge, on the bank, and in the water. A train engine is on the tracks just before the bridge. Description: This is a draft from the personal papers of the Charles B. Moore Collection. It is written by Moore on April 19, 1891. Description: Letter from Belle George in Tellico Plains, Tennessee, to her friends and family (the "home folks") in 1898. In the letter, Belle describes the events that took place during a great rain storm and subsequent river flooding in Tellico Plains, near the Tellico Lumber mill. While trying to secure her belongings and escape the home of Mr. Heyser, the general manager of Tellico Lumber, Belle fell into the water beneath a rearing horse ("Joe the horse"). Description: Patent for a water-power. It consists of a dam built halfway across a stream, a power-house with its upper end closed and inclined towards the upstream, gated inlet openings on the side of the power-house, gates that control the inlet openings, and a water-wheel on the stream side of the power-house.
