[Grant Aids New Library Building]

Description: In September, 1971, a challenge grant from the Andrew Norman Foundation was offered to the Friends of a Public Library in Marshall, Texas for the purpose of building a new library. The $150,000 offer was to be matched by funds raised in Marshall and Harrison County. Following a successful fund drive, the photo shows George Fenn Lewis, president of the Friends, endorsing a balance payment check for $110,000 before presenting it to Dick Brassell, secretary-treasurer of the Friends.

[Greenwood Plantation Accounts: Appendix 1, Interleaved Material]

Description: Compiled appendix to the account journals documenting daily work, conditions, and other records for the Greenwood plantation in Montgomery County, Texas, near Danville. It contains "loose and formerly attached interleaved material, including correspondence, receipts, production reports, &c, keyed to the places in which they were found in the plantation books. In addition, a few relevant documents, including obituaries, have been included at the end" (title page).

[Metal Coin Bank]

Description: Personal bank made of metal with a speckled green exterior and a plate on the front that says "Central National Bank, Waco, Texas." The front part is sloped and has four coin slots of difference sizes labeled (left-right): 25¢, Conscience Fund, 5¢, 10¢ Daily. There are panes below the slots; the left one is blank, but the right slots display the numbers "2" and "5." There is a lock on the bottom where the coins can be removed.
