Description: Portrait of Rev. Dr. James D. Shaw, senior pastor of the Fifth Street Methodist Church of Waco, Texas. Rev. Dr. Shaw (1841-1926) later left the ordained ministry in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South and became a "free thinker." He is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Waco, Texas, where a VA grave marker was later placed on his grave. He is visible from the chest-up and wears a dark-colored three-piece suit and a bow tie.

Description: Newspaper clipping containing several letters to the editor published in a Waco newspaper, starting with a poem from " Portfolio of a Deceased Confederate Soldier " and commentary providing insight on the soldier's life, family, property, and death.
