Photograph of Captain J. D. Davis and another soldier, both wearing Army uniforms (uniforms which were prescribed in the 1890s) with the initials T. V. G (Texas Volunteer Guard) on their collars. Davis, sitting below, wears a square cap decorated with an eagle, and the other soldier, standing above Davis at right, wears a campaign hat and appears to have the shoulder mark of a first lieutenant.
