[U.S. Soldiers at the International Bridge]

Description: Photograph of a group of U.S. soldiers at the El Paso International Bridge on the U.S. side in 1916, preparing to go elsewhere. Each soldier has their rifle, a backpack, canteen, ammunition, and a distinct belt with pouches to hold items in. Among the many duties assigned, guarding the international bridges was a high priority at the time. An early twentieth century bicycle can be seen next to a cluster of soldiers, leaning up against a beam.

Description: Photograph of a train station in Chihuahua. Accompanying information on the back of the photograph reads: "Mexico - Revolution - Railroads in Chihuahua - awaiting Villa's troops from Juarez." Description: Photograph of U.S. Cavalry Brigade troops returning to the U.S. via a pontoon bridge from Juarez, Mexico on June 16, 1919. In each pontoon boat is a soldier looking on as the line of cavalry troops and horses passes by. [Construction of Pontoon Bridge]

Description: Photograph of a pontoon bridge being constructed across the Rio Grande near present day Ascarate Park (lower valley of El Paso) in June 1919. This photo was taken around the last Battle of Juarez (June 15-16, 1919). Soldiers can be seen maneuvering pontoons in the Rio Grande toward the bridge site. On the left side of the photo, soldiers are laying planks across the pontoons.

The soldiers are actually crossing the Rio Grande on a makeshift bridge supported by pontoons. This pontoon bridge crossing into Juarez was located somewhere in the eastern part of El Paso. The Franklin Mountains are in the background.

Saint Mary's Street Bridge

Description: This postcard, sent in 1907, shows a horse drawn buggy crossing the St. Mary’s Street Bridge over Poesta Creek. In the 1870’s the county provided roads with plowed furrow on each side of a clearing in the direction of Refugio, Goliad, San Patricio, Oakville, Saint Mary’s, and Helena. In 1888, a bond issue called for four bridges. Eight wrought iron bridges were reported at the turn of the century.

Description: Postcard of a scene showing the area "Along the Highway Near Beeville, Texas" as printed at the bottom of the postcard. Note the electrical lines along the road.
