Description: Thomas Mitchell Campbell was born on 22 April 1856 at Rusk Texas, the son of Thomas Duncan and Rachel Moore Campbell. He entered Trinity University (then located at Tehuacana) to study law in 1873, but dropped out after one year. He took a job in the Gregg county clerk's office and studied law at night. He was admitted to the bar in 1878 and first hung his shingle in Longview. There he stayed until he was appointed a master in chancery for the I&GN Railroad in 1889.
