The men are wearing coats, zarapes, and sombreros ergo the weather must be cold. Another group of men can be seen on top of the railroad livestock cars. A field artillery piece, of an unknown model, sits on top of this Mexican railroad car, or tren de ferrocarril, and is headed towards an unknown destination.
